These 4 insights offer sort of a spinal cord of what narrative theology is about.

"Words don't have meaning, people do." That is BRILLIANT.

Listen to preachers read the Garden of Eden story and listen HOW they read God's quote: "What have you done?" 4 preachers could read it with 4 totally different intonations. I just started reading "Paul" by NT Wright in which he argues for a "new perspective" as we read Paul which is essentially a narrative one. I assume you've read or at least know the premise of the book but I wanted to say that I think this endeavor, with all it's potential pitfalls and cliffs is absolutely a worth while endeavor. If in fact there were narratives and stories that lived in the minds of the original readers that Paul is tapping into with "slight of hand" references, it behooves to know what those were and how they impacted the context and meaning of what Paul said.
With regards to #2: Context = meaning...is there a way beyond the impasse? Point being, can't you break down every communicative act ad infinitum and never arrive at meaning based on the particulars of each hearers context? As people of Christian faith, do you have any thoughts?Micah Witham https://www.blogger.com/profile/13479567725058054486noreply@blogger.com
